Ian is a superb and immensely experienced organ teacher, without whose help I’m not sure I would have passed the dreaded FRCO keyboard tests examination. His approach is pragmatic, patient and common-sense, whilst always focusing on the music itself – which particularly helped me with the figured bass side of things. I always enjoyed my lessons with him and always came back with plenty of practical tips on how to improve.
Huw Jones MA (Cantab) FRCO, Director of Music at Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood
Ian taught me, as a mature organ student, for nearly 20 years. His meticulous attention to detail and supportive teaching style cannot be praised enough. My part-playing and accuracy improved out of all recognition and I greatly enjoyed the richly rewarding teaching sessions. A few years ago, with Ian’s support, I achieved my long-held ambition to secure an LRSM Organ Performer’s Diploma.
Melvin Hughes, Organist & Choirmaster, St Michael, Betchworth, Surrey
I started learning organ with Ian at Trinity College of Music, London, when I was eleven years old, and the four years I spent with him were invaluable in teaching me the skills I needed to become a competent organist. His clear guidance and continuous support enabled me to make quick progress, achieving Grade 8 at age thirteen, and now, at sixteen, I am preparing to take my ARCO exam. Ian is a truly inspiring and exciting teacher!
